#MoonpigMoments: How Moonpig is Bringing us Together This Winter Season

This year, the winter holidays will be a bit different than what we are used to.  During these difficult times, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, and making plans to see our loved ones for Christmas might not be realistic this year.

Recently I was invited to a wonderful Christmas webinar organised by Moonpig, where I discovered how they are bringing families together during this holiday season, even if they are far away from one another. You don’t have to be in the same room to feel the warmth of your family. Even a simple gesture, such as sending a handwritten card, can bring the holiday cheer to a loved one. Yes, you can send a handwritten card with Moonpig, but I’ll get to that a bit later.

I know that many of you are not looking forward to the winter holidays. It’s not going to be the same. Students might not be able to return to their family home. Children might not be able to see their grandparents. Families living in different areas might not be able to come together and celebrate as they usually do each year. Some people will be spending the holidays alone. Others will have their families that are in different parts of the country, or in other parts of the world.

A small gesture, a card, a small gift, a thoughtful message; things that are more important than ever this year. It’s the perfect way to make our loved ones feel cherished and cared for this year.

Send a Card

Showing someone you care shouldn’t be difficult or complicated. A card is a fantastic way to put a smile on a dear one’s face and make them feel loved, even if they are spending Christmas on their own.

Moonpig has over 10,000 different cards, with intricate filters so you can personalise your card, and make it unique.

The easiest way to start personalising a card is by downloading the Moonpig app. This way, you can easily import any photo you have on your phone, without needing to download them first onto your computer.

I am someone who never knows what to write inside a card. My messages can often be perceived as bland, and that is because I find it harder to express my feelings in writing. I was positively surprised to see that Moonpig offers inspiration for messages, so it was easy to customise my card and make the meaning personal to me and the recipient. It’s so much easier to write a message when you don’t start with a blank canvas.

For iPhone users, Moonpig has a special feature that allows you to upload your own handwriting onto the card, making it even more personal. All you have to do is write your message on a piece of paper and then take a picture. The app will then import it onto the card, and you can align it as you wish. This is a great feature for members of the family who live in different locations. For example, if you are in London and your brother is in Manchester, you can both take a photo of your hand written messages, put them together and then upload them to the app, to make a card for your mom.

If you get stuck, Moonpig will automatically save your design so you can come back to it when you feel more inspired.

I like that the Moonpig app has an address book and also a reminder of special occasions or birthdays. You only need to input the data once, and it will remember it forever. This way you will never miss sending a birthday card to your loved ones.

Sending the card with Moonpig is fast and easy. There is even a feature that will delay the sending of the card until a particular date, chosen by you, so you can always design your Christmas cards now and schedule them to arrive just before Christmas.

Here is a code to get 20% off your Moonpig cards order, which you can use at checkout when you order via the app: APP20CA.  It is always a good idea to also check the homepage on Moonpig for different seasonal promotions.

Send a Gift

After you have designed the perfect Christmas card you can also add a gift to your order. Moonpig has a large selection of Christmas gifts, suitable for everyone, even your uncle George who always seems to have everything.

Before you get to the checkout, Moonpig will ask you if you want to add a gift to your order. From beautiful flower bouquets to delicious chocolates, from cute teddy bears to luxurious bath bombs, from exquisite cocktail sets to the latest Harry Potter memorabilia, there are plenty to choose from. The prices are more than affordable too, and by choosing a gift with your order you will have one less trip to do to the shops.

Create a Flower Arrangement

Creating a flower arrangement is a fun way to spend an evening with your family, even if it’s online. Instead of the usual quiz night, how about creating a flower arrangement that will be the centrepiece on the dinner table on Christmas Day? It’s a nice way to bring the family together, and on the day it will remind you that even if you are not together at the same table, at least you will all have contributed to creating the arrangement.

Making a flower arrangement is not hard at all – as long as you follow a few basic rules, you can let your imagination run wild. Surprise your loved ones with this beautiful Christmas bouquet from Moonpig and gather around your computers for a zoom night of creativity.

You will need a pretty rectangular pot, a piece of Styrofoam that will fit inside it, and the flower bouquet.

The two main rules of flower arranging relate to how you soak the Styrofoam and the way you pin the flowers in it. You have to be very gentle with the Styrofoam and slowly immerse it in a large bowl of water, holding it at an angle while gently lowering it down as it starts to absorb the water. Do this for each side. It can take around 10 minutes to soak it thoroughly, and it’s important take it slowly in order to prevent air pockets from forming inside. The more water the Styrofoam soaks, the longer your flowers will last.

Once it’s soaked, place it carefully inside the pot and start your arrangement. The second rule is to always pin the stems at an angle, so that the arrangement looks natural. Start with the greens to create a layer that will cover the Styrofoam visually, and move your way towards the centre. If there is any negative space, cover it with more greens.

For a more creative look, you can always add other things to your arrangement, such as twigs or evergreen branches from your garden. You can even decorate the arrangement with a couple of small Christmas baubles, for a more festive look. Let your imagination go wild!

Throw a Virtual Festive Party

Online parties are very fashionable at the moment. I even had my first Zoom birthday party invite recently, which was really fun. As long as you can still see and hear your loved ones on the camera, why not throw a Christmas party for your family?

There are many wonderful ideas for an online festive party. You can unwrap gifts, play a virtual holiday bingo game, drink festive cocktails, listen to a shared Christmas playlist. The list goes on.

To get into the holiday spirit, send your family a cocktail set and make festive cocktails together. They don’t have to be hard or complicated!  Take this delicious Gingerbread Espresso Martini for example.  All you need is 45 ml of vodka, 60ml cold espresso and 15 ml of gingerbread syrup (which you can easily find on Amazon). Mix all the ingredients together in a cocktail mixer/glass or jar with a lid, add ice, shake well for a couple of minutes then pour into a cocktail glass.

I enjoyed the evening spent with Moonpig so much. I learned about all the functions of their app, I created a stunning flower arrangement and I made festive cocktails. I gathered all the information from the webinar and put it in this article, to give you a little bit of Christmas inspiration, and some ideas about how to enjoy a virtual celebration of the winter holidays this year.

As someone who hadn’t heard of Moonpig before reading this post, this sounds like such an amazing service. Having 10,000 choices of cards, ideas for writing, and being able to produce this with your own handwriting? This is just awesome! Especially so now, with this terrible pandemic. Adding a gift at the same time is just the icing on the cake and I look forward to checking this out for some of my family I won’t be able to see this year.

Hey Joanna, its so true what you said with everything going on right now with this pandemic and all the other terrible things happening globally a lot of families are disconnected, some are even mourning. A lot of persons can’t get to physically be there with their families to celebrate and we have to get creative with making those around us feel loved and appreciated. I’ve never heard of Moonpig before but it does sound like a good deal.

I’ve never heard of Moonpig before but this is AMAZING!! This year more than ever we are really going to need to connect with each other over the holidays as much as possible, as we may not all be able to get together this year and that is going to be such a hard feeling over the holidays, and really affect others more than we could possibly know ourselves. I love all of the ideas that you listed on Moonpig, I’m going to look into this more and possibly use them for flowers and cards – and I LOVE the idea of the virtual party and playing holiday bingo. Great post, this will really help a lot of families over the holidays, because before you – I had no idea this existed. Thank you!
