How many hours do you usually spend when you book a hotel? How much time do you spend afterwards on researching, to see which booking engine offers the cheapest price? And how happy are you with your choice once you arrive at your hotel? In today’s post I want to introduce you TRVL.com, the booking platform that pays you for each hotel reservation you make!
But first, let me tell you a little bit about my experience in Venice. I have searched for days for the perfect hotel to spend two days in one of the most charming cities in the world, for my birthday last year. My criteria were simple, I wanted a room that featured traditional Venetian décor at a hotel that was in the city and that was within my budget. When I found the perfect one for me I realised that it was sold out on my trusted booking engine. So I went on one of the hotel price comparison websites to see if there are rooms available on other booking engines. And I found it, on an obscure booking engine that until now I hadn’t heard of.
Fast forwarding to my trip to Venice, I arrived at the hotel quite late, after my flight was delayed a couple of hours. I checked in and I was shown to my room. An oh, the shock when I opened the door and my stunning large Venetian room, with a big baldachin bed and antique chairs and tables was in fact a 4×4 meters cubicle, with white walls, a tiny bed in one of the corners and no windows. Needless to say, I was terribly disappointed. I went down to reception to complain and only to be fobbed off with a promise that they will move me to another room the next day (I was moved to a room of a similar same size with a bigger bed and at least wallpaper on the walls). The explanation from the receptionist was “other people paid more than you”. I decided on the room based on the images in the booking. I did feel a little scammed.
Don’t get me wrong, this room wasn’t cheap! And by adding just 100 euros more to my budget I could have stayed in one of the Palaces on the Canal Grande!
That was when I lost my faith in booking engines and hotel comparison websites. Because it was them who deceived me, it was them who showed me photos of rooms that don’t exist or were taken from other hotels websites and never verified. Ever since that experience I used exclusively Booking.com every time I booked a hotel, as I know how strict they are with their verifications.
What is TRVL.com
Recently however I have learned about TRVL.com, a booking platform focused on the user experience rather than on making profit selling expensive rooms. Their slogan is actually “Power to the traveller”, and I will get to why is that a bit further down in my article. TRVL.com was born in 2010 as the first ever travel digital publication for the iPad and it was so successful that Apple bought it a few years later and used it to create the Apple News.
What makes TRVL.com different than the other booking engines, besides the personalised experience, is the way it rewards its members. When you make a booking using TRVL.com not only that you get access to rates that are usually only available to travel agents and to discounts up to 65%, but you also earn a commission, which makes you holiday cheaper.
How does it work? It’s simple! TRVL.com shares the travel agent commission is getting for booking a hotel, with you. The booking platform works with the most reputable booking agents, such as Booking.com, Expedia or Hotels.com, so you can trust that the hotel you book will be exactly as shown in the photos.
The user experience
TRVL.com is disrupting the traditional travel agents’ market, where you would go to a third party to book your holiday. By doing it yourself through TRVL.com you become the travel agent!
I mentioned that TRVL.com’s slogan is “Power to the traveller”, and this is because they focus on the user. TRVL.com wants to make sure that when you book a hotel you are making the right choice for your preferred type of holiday and for your budget. Other booking engines will display the most expensive hotels first, together with the ones that pay a higher commission so that they are shown on top. And whilst it is understandable, as that is how they make their money, you might not get a chance to see that hotel which is perfect for you, especially if it’s shown on the 20th page! Maybe you like rooftop pools, or maybe you want to be in the city centre, maybe you are on a budget or maybe you are traveling with your extended family and need a large quiet room.
There are so many variables to take in consideration when you book a hotel, depending on what type of traveller you are and what type of trip you are going on, if it’s leisure or business, if you are going solo or with your family. The traditional booking engines have introduced a few years ago the “hurry factor”. Have you noticed how when you take a closer look to a hotel you see a notice warning you that there are only 2 rooms available for your chosen dates? Or that 70% of the hotels in the city you are traveling to are booked already? This is a way the booking engines are trying to make you book a room as soon as possible. TRVL.com has eliminated the hurry factor and it allows you to choose your perfect hotel, by letting you take as long time as you need. Each hotel’s page on TRVL.com will feature the Tripadvisor reviews and also show you the best deal for your dates.
Be your friends’ personal booking agent
When it comes to traveling, who do you trust? The internet, or a friend’s recommendation? Because TRVL.com allows you to earn a commission when you book a hotel for you or your friends, it’s a no brainer that you can become the travel expert of your family and circle of friends.
I have created travel itineraries for many of my friends who stayed at the same hotels as me and took the same tours and excursions as I did. By using TRVL.com you can do the same, create itineraries for your friends and book the hotels for them, earning a commission. You have already stayed at those hotels, so your recommendations will always be personal. And why not earn from it?
What do you think about TRVL.com? Will you give it a go next time you are booking a holiday for you or your friends?
