Last week I was invited at Mostrador Restaurant by the Argentinian Tourism Board, to enjoy a delightful dinner and learn more about their newest project for digital nomads.
I visited Mendoza a few years ago, on a very warm December. I remember what a great time I had there, visiting vineyards in the morning and enjoying massive asados in the evening. I went on a road trip around the Andes, climbing to the old pass between Argentina and Chile, I saw Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas, I learned how to make empanadas, ate my weight in alfajores, and I spent some relaxing time at the wonderful Cacheuta Thermal Baths. I am still baffled by the fact that my hotel offered two hours of free glasses of Malbec wine every day, as part of their “Happy Hour”.
Some of the most wonderful moments in Argentina were spent surrounded by locals and travellers alike. And this is what the new digital nomad project is all about: connections.
Being a Digital Nomad in Argentina
During the past few years the number of digital nomads has increased. More and more people are combining their passion for travel with remote working, and more companies allow their employees to work from anywhere in the world.
So why not Argentina? Flying to Argentina from Europe is expensive, this is why many travellers choose to maximize their time and spend at least three to four weeks in South America. Those who decide to spend more than a month in Argentina will discover how affordable living here is. The rent for a studio flat in Buenos Aires starts at £250/month. Travelling by public transport in the capital of Argentina costs as little as 25p, whilst crossing the town from one side to another in an Uber is no more than £10.
Argentina attracts through its incredible gastronomy as well, with their mouth-watering asados accompanied by one of the best wines in the world, the Malbec.
For winter sports enthusiasts, Argentina offers ski opportunities 8 months a year.
Another reason why Argentina is a great place for a few months, as a base for digital nomads, is the friendliness of the locals. As a digital nomad, you will never find it too hard to make friends with the locals. Argentinians are friendly and curious about their visitors, they organise a lot of social events, they also like to hear stories from abroad.

It is funny to read this post as I sit in Argentina. There is a time when I really would have been interested in learning more about digital nomad incentives. With easy direct flights from Toronto, Argentina would work for me. And a $500 gift card would certainly help keep costs down.
I would definitely like to remote work in Argentina. The country has been on my list forever and it looks like a wonderful country to visit too. I’ve never heard of the Tesoros Argentinos program but it really interests me. We have a similar one in Italy but the details are not so clear yet.
Oh Man, Argentina just climbed up my list by notches. Tesoros Argentinos program sounds perfect for getting to the place and enjoying all that the country has to offer. The cost of the studio flat and food seems reasonable enough to make that leap. Just the cost of flights is what I need to save up for.
Wow, this post really educated me because I had no idea that people ski in Argentina 8 months a year, I thought it was a really hot and humid all year round! I will definitely see if I qualify for the Tesoros Argentinos program, thanks for mentioning it!
I haven’t been to South America apart from Mexico but would love to visit one day and being a digital nomad there sounds a fantastic chance to experience a new destination without breaking the bank. The monthly rent is so cheap compared to the U.K.!and is nice to read that the locals welcome incomers with open arms and interest.
Thanks for posting about this. My husband and I have been digital ‘slowmads’ for some years now. When Covid came we stayed put for a while and started a reno project in Cyprus. Never been to Argentina before – but sounds like I need to add this place to the list. Great incentive.
Argentina is a beautiful country and from what I see it is becoming more and more popular for temporary relocation and especially digital nomads, I have a few friends currently living there. And while country has a hefty list of issues it feels like the potential goes steadily upwards. Great topic!

Oh wow, £250 a month for a studio flat is cheap. In London you can expect to pay a lot more. The $500 gift card would really go a long way especially as transport is cheap there too.
