Mallorca is generally a sunny island, but the weather can be very changeable, especially in spring an autumn. And when it rains in Mallorca, it rains! I remember landing on the airport in Palma and all I could see on the plane’s window was heavy rain. I got drenched from the airport’s door to the shuttle bus, only a few meters away! I was baffled, as I left a sunny England behind me, only to land in a very rainy Mallorca.
I was lucky though, as by the time I reached my hotel, the rains disappeared, and I enjoyed the warm sun for the rest of my trip. However, I wasn’t as lucky when I returned to Mallorca, at the end of November. Looking for some winter sun, I landed in the middle of six weeks of rain, something that the locals haven’t seen in 20 years or so. Lucky me, right?
But, if I wouldn’t have experienced the extreme weather in Mallorca, I wouldn’t have been able to write this article for you. Even if some days it rained cats and dogs, I was still able to enjoy the island and have fun. I even took a quick dip in the sea, in the rain, and let me tell you, it felt great!
So, if you are wondering what to do in Mallorca when it rains, you have landed in the right place. Here are some of the things I did when the weather was too bad to sightsee.
Go for a Local Wine Tasting
I enjoyed quite a few lunches with wine paring during my last trip to the island. One of the most memorable foodie experiences I attended was a lunch in a 16th century windmill, in a small family run vineyard. Mesquida Mora can organise the same for you, if you are at least 5 people. It’s a great activity to do when it rains.
Another place to go for wine tasting in Mallorca is Binissalem. This is where most of the wine on the island is made. Vins Nadal is a family-run business, born back in 1932. They organise tastings and cellar visits, where you can see how they make the wine.
If you want to make a day out of it, check out this tour which includes visits to three different vineyards and a picnic lunch. There is another tour, which you can check out here, including a visit to the market as well as the tasting and the 3-course lunch.
Go for Lunch in an Old Mallorcan Palace
One of my favourite things to do when it rained in Mallorca, was just enjoy the local food in special locations. And Can Cera is one of them. This old, former Mallorcan Palace is now a five stars adults only boutique hotel located in the old centre of Palma. The interiors are so luxurious, with so many original elements blended in harmoniously with the modern amenities.
Staying here is an experience in itself, as the rooms are absolutely incredible! This is one of them for example:
You can check out the perfect reviews on TripAdvisor, or the latest prices on Booking.com
Coming back to the lunch though, this was without a doubt one of the highlights of my most recent trip to Mallorca. The restaurant in the lobby is extremely intimate, with a private service and an extremely friendly waiter who knows the menu inside out. I spent a great afternoon with friends, enjoying dish after dish, washed down with plenty of glasses of white wine. Can you imagine something more relaxing to do, when it rains in Mallorca?
Visit the Cave of Hams
Did you know that Mallorca is famous for the man-made pearls? Or that the factories on the island have been producing them for over 100 years? Me neither!
In this fantastic tour you have the chance to visit a pearl factory and learn how they are made. Afterwards, you will stop and visit the Cave of Hams, which is 10 million years old! The inside of the cave is lighted with different colours, so you can observe the rock formations, the stalactites, and the stalagmites. During the visit they will play a short classical music concert too, so that you can notice the acoustic of the cave.

Take an Indoor Culinary Experience
There are so many foodie experiences that you can take in Mallorca, most of them having an indoor option for rainy weather. I have actually written a dedicated article about this, which you can find by clicking here.
I enjoyed so much the vegetarian cooking program in a peaceful corner of the countryside, run by Tramuntia, but also the cellar lunch at Can Ripoll, in Inca, where I tasted the porcella – one of the traditional Mallorcan dishes, eaten especially during holidays or at celebrations.
Other culinary experiences include cooking class (check out this one where you will learn how to make paella), or food tours around Palma (check out this tapas tour or this market experience).
Go to the Hammam

Going to the hammam is such a relaxing experience and it’s a perfect thing to do when it rains in Mallorca. Hammam Al Andalus has branches all over Andalucia, and I have previously experienced the treatments of their branch in Granada, about which you can read by clicking here. The Arab baths are designed to resemble the way traditional hammams used to look back in the Moorish times, which means that they are quite intimate.
I highly recommend going for the massage option, and not just the access to the thermal pools. The kessa treatment is such a unique experience, meant to help you de-stress and properly relax.
You can check out the packages and book a session at the hammam by clicking here.
Hire the Paella Man
If you have rented a villa with your family or friends in Mallorca, then why not call the Paella Man to come and cook for you on a rainy day? You can learn the secrets of making a good paella whilst you watch him cook and enjoy a delicious dinner afterwards. He brings appetizers as well, which you can enjoy before the paella is ready.
You can book the Paella Man by clicking here.
Attend a Show at Son Amar
The Son Amar has been declared Mallorca’s most spectacular shows, with over 20 performances of different flamenco dances, international acts, acrobatics, and live music. The ticket to the show includes a four-course meal, accompanied by wine and soft drinks.
The transport to the venue is included from all over the island and it’s provided by air-conditioned comfortable minivans.
You can check out the current shows and book a ticket by clicking here.
Visit the Rafa Nadal Museum Experience
Rafael Nadal is one of the famous people who was born in Mallorca. He has opened a museum in Manacor, the town he was born in – an interactive exhibition where he displayed all the trophies he has won. Even if you are not a massive supporter of tennis, this museum is an experience worth seeing because of the virtual simulators where you can challenge your family and friends to a game. Also, the museum has a large collection of memorabilia donated by the biggest tennis players in the world.
The museum also focuses on teaching the values of sport, such as effort, self-improvement, companionship and commitment, which makes it a great place to bring children to.
You can buy tickets to the Rafael Nadal Experience by clicking here.
Go Swimming in Cova des Coloms
Mallorca has a complex system of limestone caves, and one of the most famous ones is Cova des Colmes. This is the island’s only sea cave in which you can swim inside flooded passageways and practice caving.
This experience includes transport from your hotel, all the equipment needed and insurance. You will go inside the cave with an expert guide, so it’s a great opportunity to try out caving, if you have never done it before.
This experience is a great way to explore Mallorca’s underground rocky landscape created by the movement of the water. You can find out more details about this tour by clicking here.

Great list! When I think of Mallorca I just think of beaches. I would love to do the cooking class or go to the Nadal museum even if it doesn’t rain.
Your photos are fantastic, thanks for sharing your ideas which are very helpful for the visitors.

Haha, I feel your pain. Isn’t it just frustrating if you leave England in the sun to land somewhere in the rain? This has happened to me so many times and people usually point out that I should be totally used to it as it rains in England all the time… obviously.
Great post, loads of good ideas. Haven’t actually ever tried a cooking course when travelling. But since I love exploring the local cuisine, it seems like a no brainer. So should really look into this 😉
That paella looks awesome! I also cook paella at home but I don’t include peas because the kids don’t like it. Mallorca is beautiful. Would love to go there someday. 😀
Wow, this is really interesting! There are so many great ideas to choose from! Learning how to make paella and attending flamenco show are something that I would want to do when visiting Mallorca, with or without the rain! Thank you for sharing this. 🙂
All of these suggestions sound wonderful, I would do them even if it wasn’t raining! Cooking classes and wine tasting are such fun ways to spend vacation time.
There reallly is so many things to do there when it rains! I would love to do the wine tasting or see a pirate show. How cool!
I got to visit Spain over a decade ago but did not get the chance to visit Mallorca. I need to go back and explore!
Spain in the rain isn’t why you go to spain I guess but it is great that they are other things to do than going to the beach! sign me up for a wine tasting!
Of course I LOVE a glass of wine while rain falls! I also take the breakfast haha Seriously writing about what to do when rain in a great location is brilliant ! Thank you!
